Stress and Your Family

Stress and Your Family

Raising a family presents its own set of unique daily challenges. What are yours? Chances are good that they fall into any one or more of the following type of scenarios:

  • Stress over how bills will be paid
  • The health and well-being of your family, and yourself
  • Job security
  • Saving for a college education

This short list only scratches the surface of what we, as parents, encounter. Other daily struggles include the smaller stressors; such as getting the kids to their babysitter or school, ensuring homework is done on time, meal preparations, and keeping a home that truly feels like home.

It would be impossible, in the short framework of this article, to cover all the preceding challenges. Let’s touch on a couple key areas that often arise, offering some tips (who of us can’t use a few more tips!) to get us through a day more balanced.

Stress

The internet, bookstores, and libraries are filled with ideas and concepts on how to better deal with stress. This is a common denominator across all demographics; it does not care what the bank account looks like, and is not biased towards outward appearances.

When you toss in the significant other and the kids, well, need we say more? The stress multiplier is self-evident. The responsibility of raising a child in this world is no easier than it was decades ago; by most standards, it has become more difficult.

With the advent of mobile technology, our kids are more prone to staying indoors, locked in on their mobile device surfing the internet and apps. Perhaps you have a son or daughter who is a borderline gaming addict.

How we, as parents, tackle the stress that comes with these types of challenges can make the difference between a child with a bright future and one who takes a few wrong turns and requires some form of outside help.

The saying that fits here is this – if you are on a plane that has to make an emergency landing, and the oxygen masks will be deployed, do you put the mask on yourself first or your kids? It goes on the adult first.

Finances

Most families struggle, at some point and level, with debt. It manifests in a variety of ways; from unexpected calamity (i.e. natural disaster, serious auto accident),  bad decisions, you can add to this list an infinite number of circumstances.

Regardless of your current financial situation, the key here is to accept the present moment as it is. Then, take a moment to see what you can change, and what you can not. If you are not certain, seek the counsel of someone who has the expertise.

Once an action plan has been presented that is feasible, the keystone for it to work is action. Regardless of how small of a difference it seems to be making early on, keep at it. Remember, nothing worthwhile in this life comes easily or quickly.

Relocation/Moving

The nature of our economy, and society today is that few families end up staying in the same house and community for very long. That may not be your experience, yet it remains true for many.

Let’s assume that you, or your significant other, receives notification that a transfer is required as it relates to employment. Fear sets in. How on earth will we make this move a smooth one?

Most companies today offer relocation assistance. Be certain to research this. Often, you will be surprised at how much assistance is available.

What about our vehicle(s)? There are 3 keys on how to choose the best auto shipper. There are as follows:

  • Research
  • Question
  • Price

In closing, hopefully, you have found some of this information helpful. It may prove beneficial today, or perhaps seeds have been planted for future use. Our responsibility as parents needs no description. Take advantage of the help that is available to make your job easier on you and your loved ones.
