Summertime is almost here, and I’m getting my daughter’s summer reading all ready. When I was young, I couldn’t wait to spend my days outside on a blanket just reading all day! I was a bookworm though. My daughter is growing up in the electronic era, so an actually BOOK is hard for her I guess…well not this summer the phone won’t be by her side all the time! We are going to enjoy reading books; she already is into one book ….Being a Girl!
Being a Girl
She is going through a lot of changes right now, (just turned 13) and middle school has been hard for her this year. Being a Girl book helps young girls with the adorable illustrations and the information about what real girls face like mean girls, cyberbullying, hair/makeup/fashion/ and of course Puberty! My daughter told me she likes this book a lot because it covers topics she doesn’t always want to talk to me about. She gets embarrassed very easily so talking to mom can be scary even though we have a close relationship. When she finishes the book, she wants to let her best friend read it too!
Being a girl is awesome. It can also be hard. And no one knows that better than girls who are going through it right now. From BFFs to Mean Girls, selfies to self-esteem, pimples and periods and peer pressure, Being a Girl tells it like it is. Friendly, funny, reassuring, and honest, this is the book mothers will wish they had had when they were younger, and the one girls will turn to again and again.

Being a Witch and Other Things I Didn’t Ask For
14-year old Rachel “Raya”” Hollingsworth is a turtle, hard on the outside and soft inside. And it’s easy to see why – she’s had a tough childhood that’s made affection difficult. But this foster care escapee is about to learn a secret about herself that will change everything…
She decides it’s time to strike out on her own. She leaves the boring village and what she’s determined will be her last foster placement, for the excitement of London. But it turns out she’s a witch, with the annoying habit of time-travelling — by accident. And a sarcastic witch’s cat Oscar tags along for the ride. Why would she fling herself into the midst of the Essex Witch Trials in 1645 England? After being arrested by one of the history’s most notorious witch hunters, her social worker and witch mentor Bryony goes back to try to save them from the gallows.
