Smiling Bright: Tips for Dentist Appointment Survival

Many people believe that dentist appointments are necessary evils that draw up a lot of dread. Few things are worse than mouth pain, where we experience the tastes life has to offer and share our words and expressions with others. It can be easy to avoid the dentist, but it’s important to keep up with those annual appointments to preserve the beauty of your smile, health of your gums, and overall well-being of your body. However, many of us have legitimate fears concerning the dentist and the overwhelming pain we’ve experienced in the past. Here are a few tips for surviving the dentist and maybe even coming out encouraged and motivated to take care of your dental health.

Shop Around

The internet makes it really easy now-a-days to find a dentist that has an excellent track record. If you live in a large city, chances are the most dentists have an online presence with client reviews that can help guide you to a dentist that is considerate, gentle, and pain-free. Why not click here to find a dentist that makes your comfort the top priority. If you don’t like the first dentist you visit, don’t be afraid to leave a negative review and move on to another one for your next appointment. Negative reviews give helpful feedback for businesses that are looking to improve, and positive ones praise what that business is doing right. Don’t forget to leave a positive review for a dentist who does a fantastic job.

Ask For What You Need

If you’re feeling scared or nervous in that dentist chair, say it. Tell the assistant or the dentist what you’re feeling. If you’re having a major procedure like a root canal or filling, ask your dentist to give you plenty of pain-killer to numb the area on which the work will take place. If you’re wary of needles, just remember that only the first prick of Novocain really hurts, and it will be over soon. Ask the assistant to help distract you by talking to you as the Novocain goes in. Close your eyes and take deep breaths. With today’s technology, there’s absolutely no reason you should experience any pain while undergoing a dental procedure.

Look Into Teeth Whitening

A whitening treatment every once-in-a-while may just provide the motivation you need to have the deeper level issues addressed. Consider rewarding yourself for going to the dentist with teeth whitening. Your bright, new smile will encourage you to come back for your annual appointments. Many dentists are now offering free whitening treatments along with your annual check-ups. Other dentists offer whitening with a significant discount. It’s especially excellent to take advantage of these opportunities if you’re getting ready for a big event, such as a wedding, a big party, or an important date. Your smile says so much about you, and it’s time to take that risk to look and feel your very best.

Let me tell you Kelly, I avoided going to the dentist for 2 years and when I finally went boy did I regret it, it's so easy to find time to go twice a year and completely necessary, my teeth are so much better now and it holds me accountable
