To create the deep and luxurious crimson color of Gran Lusso, the MARTINI Master Blender looked no further than Piedmont’s famous Barbera grape variety. The winemaker selected the best growers near the MARTINI winery in Santo Stefano Belbo to provide the grape known for its velvety texture and intense color. For the dry, white wine base of Gran Lusso, the winemaker travelled to neighboring Emilia-Romagna for the first pressing, or ‘Vino Fiore’, of the Trebbiano grapes for a subtle and delicate, aromatic character. This light and refined body allows the character of the botanicals to fully flourish.
For Gran Lusso, the MARTINI artisans have created groundbreaking new methods of extracting the essential character of the botanicals. First, they looked to the must (unfermented grape juice) of Moscato di Canelli from the Asti region, which is also used in MARTIN Asti. A natural spirit was added and then aged in barrels for a year to give a honeyed, rich and perfumed character. Once aged, a carefully selected collection of botanicals are added to create an extract. These include South African aloe, great yellow gentian roots hand-picked in the volcanic alpine region of the Auvergne in France and red cinchona tree bark from Ecuador. Macerated together, these botanicals deliver a sublime extract, which brings the ‘sweet-bitter’ taste to the final blend.
1 part MARTINI® Rosso vermouth
2 parts whiskey
Stir ingredients with ice and strain into a martini cocktail glass or pour over ice in rocks glass. Add cherry to garnish.
For a twist on the traditional Manhattan, replace bourbon with DEWAR’S®WHITE LABEL® Blended Scotch Whisky.
Gran Lusso Negroni
1 part Campari
1 part Bombay Sapphire
1 part MARTINI Gran Lusso
Garnish with an orange slice.
Stir the ingredients over ice. Strain into a lowball glass with a large chunk of ice. Garnish and serve.
MARTINI® Asti Poinsettia
3 parts cranberry juice
1/2 part premium orange liqueur
4 drops bitters
2 parts MARTINI® Asti
Add first three ingredients and ice into a cocktail shaker. Shake well and strain into a flute glass. Top with MARTINI Asti.
MARTINI® Dolce La Poire
3 parts MARTINI® Moscato d’Asti
1 part GREY GOOSE® La Poire Flavored Vodka
Squeeze fresh lemon
¼ part simple syrup
Shake ingredients with ice, and strain into a tall glass filled with ice. Garnish with a slice of fresh pear or lemon wedge.
The SAPPHIRE® 75
Chilled MARTINI® Prosecco
3 parts BOMBAY SAPPHIRE® Gin
2 parts freshly squeezed lemon juice
1 part simple syrup
Shake the first three ingredients with ice and strain into a flute. Top with chilled MARTINI Prosecco.
