Reading is a big deal in our house. Every night I spend at least 20 minutes reading to my daughter. But I also take into consideration the type of books I am reading to her. I want the books we read together to be inspirational, fun and if possible have a lesson woven into the story. Sally Loves…. is a line of children’s books all based on Sally and her experiences. And woven into each story is a little life lesson.
In Sally Loves … to Swim! we see Sally has a passion for swimming. Sally really wants to be on the swim team and she is training to accomplish this goal. We also learn about Sally’s other activities she likes to do, like riding her bike with her brother Ryan. Throughout the story we see Sally try various activities while she is getting ready to compete in a triathlon just like her mother. While Sally is good at swimming, running and riding her bike she is concerned that she will not be able to do all three for the triathlon. But Sally’s mom keeps encouraging her and saying “if you can dream it….and if you work hard at it…you can do whatever you set your mind to do.” And Sally does just that. She works hard all summer and competes in the triathlon. I really enjoyed how throughout the story we say Sally work really hard to attain her dream and how her mother encouraged her.
