I have a 5 year old at home and she started kindergarten this past fall. A big challenge for us, and her classmates, has been behavior. How can she demonstrate good behavior even when her friends are not? How can she be a role model and how can she model other children’s manners and good behavior? It’s a constant struggle. These kids at 5 and for many this is the first time they’ve been in a structured school environment. And for some it’s the first time away from mom or dad all day long. Role Model Ricky’s Big Birthday Bash is perfect story to help convey a positive message about behavior to young kids.
Ricky really wants to have a huge birthday bash. But his mom told him he could only have a big bash if he demonstrated role model behavior. What does that mean? Well, it means Ricky has listen his parents, share with his friends and be nice to others. Sounds simple? Right? Well for a young child those can be awfully hard to do. But Ricky does it! So now he’s having his big birthday bash. Throughout his birthday party we see Ricky make choices on how to be a good role model. His toughest choice was once he opened his presents everyone wanted to play with his new train set. But Ricky really wanted to keep it for himself and play alone. It was a new toy! He didn’t’ want to share. But he stopped and thought about it. And after a few moments he made a choice. He chose to share his new train set with his friends. And you know what? He had a blast! And so did all his friends. They made track combinations and ran the train through them. Ricky knew he had made the right choice.
