HOW TO MAKE PURPLE MONSTER CUPCAKES 

Butter, confectioners’ sugar and milk are transformed into a yummy buttercream icing and then dyed purple.

Chocolate cupcakes are generously covered in a delicious purple frosting that looks like cute purple hair with multiple candy eyes to create a fun snack the whole family will enjoy!

Purple Monster Cupcakes Ingredients

This effortless Purple Monster Cupcake recipe uses easy to find ingredients to create a fun snack your family will love.

All you need is:

  • chocolate cupcakes
  • butter
  • confectioners’ sugar
  • milk
  • violet gel food coloring
  • marshmallows
  • candy eyes

PURPLE MONSTER CUPCAKE INSTRUCTIONS

First, ensure that your cupcakes are cool so that you can start decorating.

Never decorate a hot or warm cupcake because the icing will melt.

Start by making your buttercream: in a stand mixer, start beating butter, sugar and milk on medium speed, gradually increasing it to high.

Add a couple of drops of violet gel food coloring and mix until completely tinted.

With an offset spatula, spread some buttercream on top of each cupcake. If you don’t have an offset spatula use a regular knife.

Next, cut each marshmallow into 3 pieces. Place 2 or 3 on top of each iced cupcake.

The marshmallows are there to create some “hills and valleys”.

Scoop the remaining buttercream into a piping bag and use Wilton tip #233 to frost each cupcake, being sure to cover it completely.

Place 2-4 eyes on each cupcake. In a little under an hour, you’ll have a furry, purple monster cupcake!

I love using store-bought chocolate cupcakes because it makes this recipe take less time.

This Purple Monster Cupcake recipe takes approximately 44 minutes. TOTAL.

This includes:

  • About 10 minutes to create the buttercream icing
  • Close to 12 minutes to spread the icing on all of the cupcakes
  • Around 5 minutes to cut your marshmallows into small pieces
  • 12 minutes to add the “hair” onto the purple monster cupcakes 
  • 5 minutes to add silly eyes 

If you were to bake your own cupcakes you would need to add at least 30 minutes plus cooling time to this recipe.

CAN I USE A DIFFERENT COLOR OF ICING?

Yes, you can use any color of icing you want.

My favorite color is of course, purple.

Blue or green would look amazing too!

  • 25-30 candy eyes

These purple upcakes look amazing Kelly! I was thinking about somehow trying to make these for the kids at a party I have coming up. I seriously doubt they'll look as nice though lol
