Party Games are Perfect for Holiday Parties and Gifts

Every year I host Christmas Eve at my house. We don our ugly sweaters, gorge ourselves on our favorite holiday foods, and play party games. It’s so much fun. It passes time til the man in red comes, and helps to tire out my rambunctious son. But most of all, we create fantastic memories that we talk about every year.

Party Games are Perfect for Holiday Parties and Gifts

Whether or not you host a holiday get together, or attend one, bringing a game is a great idea. Turn a party from blah to boisterous! The following are games that we play. Some can be made, and some are purchased. The ones that we purchased make great gifts too.

Holiday Drawing Charades

I really have no name for this, as it was my youngest son’s idea. We get index cards, and write holiday themed things on them. We do Christmas songs, movies, and foods. We also do some with religious names because after all, we’re celebrating the birth of Christ. We split our family into two teams, and set up our giant white board. On their turn, the team playing picks their “artist” and that person draws what is on their chosen card. They can say the genre or theme of the card but nothing else. We don’t keep score because it’s all in fun, and let me tell you, it’s always fun.

A few years ago, Liam was eight, and it was his turn to draw. He’s drawing away and my mom and sister are guessing. They kept saying “baby Jesus,” and Liam was insisting that wasn’t it. I knew it was, so I asked to see his card. Sure enough it said “baby Jesus.” Liam says, “Oh man! I thought it was Bobby Jones!” So now we call him Bobby Jones!

The Voting Game

Okay adults. If you’re seventeen and older, The Voting Game is for you! I can’t take credit for its awesomeness because we bought it, but it’s fun and full of laughs. This hilarious card game is for five to ten players and helps you uncover the truths behind your friendships. Each round a question is read, and players vote anonymously for the player they feel it describes. The votes are then tallied, and their personalities are revealed.

Questions range from, who would survive the longest in the zombie apocalypse, whose Google search history would you like to see most, who would be your one call if you got arrested, and so on.

Pick Your Poison

Another ‘fun’tastic game I can’t take the credit for. This one is for twelve and up, so it’s a bit more family friendly. Three to sixteen people can play this game so it’s great for a small party. In Pick Your Poison, players compete to pick the most difficult scenarios, and then anonymously answer the “would you rather” questions from the cards. When everyone reveals which they would rather do, you’ll find out who agrees with you, and who is the weirdo.

Pick Your Poison

This game is so much fun. We played it last night with our sons and their older cousin. They had a blast as did we. It would make a great addition to a holiday gathering, or even under the tree.
