Hi, I’m Lillianna, upon entering this world I wasn’t breathing and was placed in NICU. My first few days were spent with oxygen tubes as my breathing source, and my feedings were done via IV. Because of this, my swallowing and burping development was delayed. Something that should have come naturally from birth had to become a learned function because I didn’t have the opportunity to swallow on my while in NICU. Needless to say, it’s 2 months later, and I still fumble over my swallows, and sometimes choke on milk. As you can imagine, drinking from bottles coupled with my swallowing techniques create a lot of spit up and requires a lot of burping. Getting colic is one of my mommy’s biggest worries.
Hi! I’m Lilly!
What is colic anyway? To my understanding, it’s any discomfort in the stomach area that causes a baby to cry uncontrollably for a long time. If I get this, there’s not much you can do to ease my pain. No one knows for sure exactly what causes colic, but gas is one of the suspected culprits. Sometimes, babies swallow air which is why choosing the right bottle is super important. Keeping the air out of my tummy will help reduce the chance of gas and ultimately reduce the chance of colic.
Even though my current bottles claim to reduce air flow and colic, excessive spit up and the need to burp several times is STILL an issue. This is why I took the chance of switching to Philips Avent Natural bottle.
In my mind, a bottle is a bottle. Seen one…seen them all. All bottles do the same thing, right? Wrong! I mean, I’ve used other bottles with unique shapes and insertions that claim to keep out air, and prevent colic. However, after using the Philips Avent bottles, I now believe that what other bottle companies say are JUST CLAIMS. Those things don’t work. Well maybe they do, but in my eyes they don’t.
I love my Avent bottles!
You see, until now I have used a certain other brand that shall remain nameless. Even though that brand boldly claims to keep air out, reduce spit up, prevent colic, yada-yada-yada… it doesn’t. It wasn’t until we switched to these Philips Avent bottles that I saw a change. Philips Avent Natural bottles do exactly what they say. With the first try, I enjoyed the bottle. I didn’t think that was possible, but Philips Avent proved me wrong. I sucked it from start to finish and drank all four ounces. Which was the first time that I’d done that, but that’s not the exciting part. The true testament is that it was the first time that I DID NOT spit up or burp. Pat Pat Pat Pat….Nothing! If you read the beginning of this post (which I’m sure you did), then you understand why no spit up, choking, or burping is a big deal.
My mommy and I are so IN LOVE with these bottles that we wanted to tell you a few things about them.
