When you have your first baby you have no idea what your getting yourself into. There are no amount of books or things that can really prepare you for the emotional, awesome and somewhat traumatizing experience your going to have. By your second child your much more prepared and the more children you have from then on are pieces of cake in compression to your first. However, as raising babies don’t really change that much technology sure does. I am learning that while I can ditch buying extra towels and onsies, I can always benefit from better technology, especially when it has the potential to save my newborns life!Owlet is an amazing product that I really wish had been around when my other two boys were babies. Thankfully I get the peace of mind to use it with my daughter. Owlet is a monitor that alerts me when my daughter stops breathing or her heart rate is low!! My two month old has struggled to not choke and gag on her spit up since she was born. Owlet has been a life saver for my peace of mind. There have been two instances where she was choking bad enough to not get air briefly causing the Owlet alarm to sound and give me time to aid her in the removal of spitup. Both of these times were not so bad, she hadn’t lost color or been struggling to breathe for more than a few seconds, and may have been able to clear herself up. Now matter what could have happened, I am beyond grateful that I didn’t have to wait to see if she would be okay. The monitor fits into a little bootie that is secured to your baby’s foot, you can easily put clothes over the monitor and it still works just fine! When there is an issue the monitor will send an alert to your charging base that lights up and makes noise and additionally can send a message to your ios smart phone as well. If you don’t have an ios phone (like me…android user here) or your WiFi goes out you will always get notified on the base no matter what. Should the monitor not fit snug or fall off you will be notified immediately that it’s not reading baby’s vitals so you can adjust it as needed. The sock is washable, (don’t leave the monitor in before you do) should it need a wash it’s easy. Additionally, there are different sized socks for your growing baby including a preemie size if you need it! I spent time looking at their product prior to now and I can tell you that Owlet really worked hard to find a design that is accurate and perfect for you and baby. Owlet really thought of everything on this one!Owlet has changed the parenting world forever by using pulse oximetry to monitor your baby’s breathing and heartrate. This is same type of technology is used in Hospitals to monitor vitals so it makes perfect sense to have it in the home to monitor your baby (Again, why didn’t someone think of this earlier). After giving birth to three babies, this most defiantly is my favorite technology equipment out there. Owlet belongs on the top of every baby registry, and shower gift list unquestionably! Baby monitors are great but you have to be watching the screen to know if something is wrong with baby. Owlet is the only monitor I have seen on the market that really does what it says it does and lets you rest without keeping one eye open. So many parents have suffered the tragic loss of their infant due to SIDS, I only wish that this Owlet was thought of sooner as it may have helped those babies. Hopefully, monitors like the Owlet will be used everywhere in the near future and honor those lost babies by eliminating SIDS all together. Wouldn’t that be something amazing!
While Owlet is not a replacement for medical equipment that may be needed for your baby it most assuredly gives a whole new sigh of relief for all parents. If you know anyone having a baby or who just had a baby I strongly urge you to share Owlet with them it could potentially be a life saver!
I would love to hear what your thoughts on a monitor like this are! If this had been around when your babies were little would you have used it?
