“Mindfulness For PMS, Hangovers, And Other Real-World Situations” For Those Of Us That Don’t Have The Time Or Patience For Traditional Meditation

I’ve been taught how to do meditation multiple times, mostly in classes about managing stress.  But, I’ve noticed meditation really hasn’t been my thing.  It’s hard to sit for a long time and focus on my breathing. And, to clear my mind seems rather impossible. I’d rather go outside and walk the dog to relax.  However, the other day I was introduced to a book called “Mindfulness for PMS, Hangovers, and Other Real-World Situations” (May 15, 2018 ISBN: 978-1-5107-3065-6) by Courtney Sunday. After reading through Ms. Sunday’s book, I actually think I can do meditation—Ms. Sunday’s type of meditation, that is. This book offers short, doable meditations for various situations that you may be going through in your life.

Mindfulness

Mindfulness is to be aware of something. In the book, Ms. Sunday helps you to be mindful of various issues that may be affecting your life and to meditate in a sort of nontraditional, thoughtful, fun way. Her writing speaks the truth and makes you think, but it also makes you laugh (which helps relieve the stress, too). The book provides more than 75 meditations “to help you find peace in daily life” (taken from cover).

What’s Involved In Mindfulness?

What I like about the book is that you can open it up to the Table of Contents and pick the meditation that deals with what is going on in your life. Some examples include meditations that deal with:

  • When you need a hug,
  • When you are feeling lazy,
  • If you’re experiencing creative burnout,
  • Releasing bad habits,
  • Biting your nails, and more.

Tonight, my family and I did the meditation dealing with when you are feeling lazy.  It made us laugh. It also made us contemplate what we do with our time. And, it had us practice breathing. By the end of the meditation, which didn’t take long at all, we did feel better and more relaxed. We also felt more mindful of what we do with the limited time of our day.

The author, Courtney Sunday, is a health writer, wellness coach, and yoga teacher. She specializes in working with people who don’t think they can do yoga. She has also had her work published in The Globe and Mail, USA Today, and MindBodyGreen.

“Mindfulness is currently available as a pre-order on Amazon for $12.99 (Kindle edition) and $14.99 (Flexibound). Prices are subject to change. The book will be released in May 2018.
