Cats have won over the hearts of so many, including my precious son. So when I was asked to check out this debut children’s book by Max Goodman, I jumped at the chance. I present to you, The Secret Life of Lilykins.
Lily lived at home with her family. Her two daddies Max and Patrick, and her fur brother Charlie. Like many cats she enjoyed naps, snacks and love from her family. She had many nicknames, but Lilykins was by far the best, for it captured all her cuteness and sweetness. (It happens to be our favorite nickname for her too!)
Outside of her charmed life, Lilykins also had a secret world, all her own. In her world, nothing was mundane or ordinary. It was magical, and colorful and fun! Full of animals, adventure and absurdity, this book takes the reader on a “catastic” voyage.
Spark your child’s imagination, and explore diversity
This book will definitely get your children’s imagination running. Between it’s sing-song rhyme, and it’s funny and colorful illustrations, it’s a super fun book. I think one of my favorite parts was when Lily told the squirrel that when life gets boring, all you need to do is close your eyes, and let your imagination take you someplace magical.
I personally also love the diversity in this book. Lily and her fur brother Charlie happen to have two dads. I think it’s a great way for children to be exposed to the diversity in our wonderful world.
