Humans have FitBits. Pets have iQPet Star Walk. This little gadget is awesome!
The Star Walk attaches to your fur baby’s collar, and connects to your smartphone. (App is free and available in iTunes and Google Play. I have an S4 and had no problems locating the app.) It then gives you detailed insights on your pet’s daily activity level. It tells you how many steps your pet has taken, calories burned, and where other dogs similar in size are on the scale.
Here is what Star Walk tracks:
- Total steps
- Calories burned
- Active time
- Activity type
- Distance traveled
When you set up your profile you choose your breed. (Josie is a mutt, but more pug than anything, so I chose that option.) You also set up a daily goal for your four legged friend. At first, I set Josie’s to 1000 steps. She’s lazy like her mom, and I figured that would be a reach. It wasn’t! I ended up upping her daily steps to 6000 a day and she gets close to that on most days.
Another great feature is the light. You can change the color of the light to SIX different colors for night time mode, which makes your pet easy to spot in the dark. It’s not only a safety feature for your pet, but for you as well. Liam especially loves this feature. He enjoys switching the color every night.
You can set alerts with the Star Walk too. Like medications, or even important dates. When the alert goes off, your pet’s Star Walk will be blinking. You’ll also get an alert on your phone. It’s like your pet is texting you. That is pretty cool!
The Star Walk is easy on and easy off with the push tab release, located on the universal bracket attachment. The charge lasts about 2 days, so I charge mine every other day or so. It’s also waterproof, which is great for when we take our walks to the swimming hole. (Josie hates water, but will go in where it’s shallow. Star Walk has gotten slightly wet and still works great!)
Star Walk retails for $79.95. It’s worth every penny.
