Getting Better Mileage

How to Get More Gas Mileage

Fuel is becoming more expensive with each passing day. With prices shooting up, you need to achieve efficient fuel economy for your vehicle. You have to consciously make an effort to ensure you get the best possible gas mileage while driving your car to work or taking road trips. Here are a few tips to get better mileage:

Go easy on the accelerator – you don’t have to press down on the pedal for dear life! The accelerator is responsible for the amount of fuel that is channeled to the engine, so pressing down on it moderately (but not too lightly either) will give you a good mileage. When a car is accelerating the efficiency is low, so use the power that is required to get the vehicle up to the necessary speed without accelerating hard.
It feels good to cruise around at high-speeds, but it greatly hampers fuel economy. Wind resistance compounds combined with speed beings down the mileage. Did you know that the limit for most cars after which the highway mpg goes down is around 60 mph? Try sticking to a figure below the speed limit, taking care not to cause problems with traffic or leading to safety issues.
