Five Fantastic Ways to Shift Those January Blues

Most people feel a bit down in January and there are many different causes of the dreaded January Blues. The weather is dull and depressing, money is often tight after the expense of Christmas and the inability to keep up New Year Resolutions can play on the mind. If you’ve found yourself in a slump use these five mood busters to give yourself the kick you need to face the rest of the year in a more positive light.

Positive Affirmations

The concept of positive affirmations may seem a little daft to you, but they really do work. The more you tell yourself positive things and say them out loud the easier it is to begin to believe them. Do yourself a favour and start saying positive affirmations in the mirror, shouting them from the top of a hill or simply say them in your mind.  Think of some positive things to say and say them like you mean them! When negative thoughts start entering your mind fight them off with your positive shouts instead.

Do Something that Scares You

Complacency and boredom are real mood killers, which is why it’s a great idea to try something that’s out of your comfort zone. What you decide to do is really up to you. You could sign up for a class you’ve always wanted to join but have never been brave enough in the past, or even leave a relationship that you know deep down isn’t working out. Once you’ve done it you’ll benefit from a sense of accomplishment and you’ll feel good that you’ve done something that’s actually good for you, even if it was a little challenging.

Change Your Routine

The way you spend your day has an impact on the way you act and feel. If you’re depressed it’s a clear sign that you need to do something different in your life. The routine doesn’t have to incorporate anything dramatically different, just make some subtle tweaks and see if they improve your happiness levels. You could try walking to work instead of driving, cooking a meal from scratch instead of ordering a takeout or turning off the television and reading a book.

Get Some Exercise

It’s easy to curl up in your duvet and snuggle down in front of the television, especially when it’s cold outside but too much lazing around isn’t a good thing. Exercise lifts your mood, it helps combat stress hormones by releasing a whole host of happy hormones and again you benefit from a sense of accomplishment. There’s no need to sign up for the gym, just get up off that sofa and dance or head out for some long walks. As long as your heart rate increases you’re on the right track.

Focus on the Future not the Past

If you’re not happy right now or if you’re living in the past get over it by concentrating on the future. Set your goals and set them high, you deserve to dream big just like everyone else. Book yourself a psychic reading and see what great things the future holds and start planning for a brighter tomorrow. Call now and start your new journey.
