How to Find Out if You’re a City-Dweller or a Country Bumpkin at Heart

It appears that the majority of people fall into either one of two categories. Some feel most at home in the country while others prefer the hustle and bustle of a big city. Many people already have little doubt in their minds exactly which category they fall into. However, there are also those who aren’t quite so sure. If you happened to grow up in the suburbs, for example, you may not have enough experience of either city or country living to know which one suits you better.

Well, for those of you who may be moving to pastures new, and are still yet to make up their minds, this post is for you. Because we’re going to ask you a few simple questions to find out once and for all whether you’re a city-dweller or a country bumpkin at heart.

What Does Your Dream House Look like?

When you picture your dream house in your head, what exactly do you see? Do you see a large farmhouse with a good-sized garden and a big family kitchen? Perhaps, you see a contemporary house with a double garage and high-spec features? While there are some exceptions, most character properties are to be found in rural locations as the Countrywide property portal would suggest. Whilst contemporary new-builds are typically found closer to inner city locations. So, if you’ve always seen yourself surrounded by open spaces and waking up to the sound of birdsong, then we may just make a country bumpkin out of you yet!

What’s Your Idea of a Perfect Day Out?

Is your idea of a perfect day out a picnic in a park surrounded by picturesque views, verdant grass and unpolluted air? Perhaps you’d prefer instead to spend the day shopping and then stop off at a bistro for a bite to eat? How we spend our free time is often one of the best indications of whether a city or rural town would be more suited to our lifestyle. So, if you find the idea of peace and quiet boring, then chances are that you’re not yet quite ready to settle down in a countryside location.

What Do You Do for a Living?

Due to the advent of the digital age, there are now more options than ever before for people to work from home. We can now hold conferences via Skype, for example, with people from all over the world, all in the comfort of our own homes. So this has meant that moving to the country, whether you live in the US or across the pond in the UK, has become a much more viable option. Because whilst countryside locations are quaint and picturesque, they can also struggle due to a lack of local employment opportunities. But if you’re someone who is lucky enough to be able to work from home and doesn’t have to worry about commuting, then this widens your options considerably. However, if your job requires you to travel, an isolated country house may not be a wise move.

Answer each of these questions honestly, and you will soon discover whether country living or a move into the big city is the right move for you.
