The mail lady brought me a wonderful surprise the other day! She brought Wendy Piersall’s new book, Coloring Ocean Mandalas.
I actually told hubby that I hoped Santa Claus would be slipping this book under my tree, this Christmas. Now I don’t have to wait for the jolly man in red. Needless to say I sharpened up all my colored pencils (the mom ONLY pencils that no one else dare touch,) and chose my first mandala. I chose the one with Narwhals! Yes I did! (And yes, I totally heard the catchy little Narwhal diddy in my head. Matter of fact, each time I start to color my mandala, I hear it.) I color mine for fifteen minutes here and here as time allows.
It really is calming. As I stated when I wrote about Wendy’s Coloring Dream Mandalas, it has been proven that coloring reduces anxiety and calms adults and children alike. No joke, when Liam is having a rough day and has me all stressed out, the first chance I get, I work on coloring a mandala. Matter of fact, when I finish writing this, I will be coloring some more. (Halloween schedule change + too much candy + time change = very ornery autistic son, which = very annoyed mommy!
I see a lot of my friends have joined this adult coloring movement. I also see so many of them say the same thing. “It’s so relaxing. It’s fun. It brings back childhood memories.” The other part I like about is, my son finally got interested in coloring two years ago. I have always lived to color, so now it’s something we can do together. He colors his Pokemon or Super Hero pictures, and I color in one of my Wendy Piersall books.
She has a few to choose from. Coloring Dream Mandalas, Coloring Ocean Mandalas, Coloring Animal Mandalas, and Coloring Flower Mandalas. Even though Halloween was yesterday, she still has some printable adult Halloween coloring pages on her site. Perfect for people like myself whom adore Halloween.
