Every six months I have to drag myself to the dentist. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t have a lot of teeth problems or anything. There is just something about holding my mouth open for endless minutes that makes my bi-yearly cleaning a chore. I don’t like the smell of the office or the fact that some one else’s hand will be in my mouth. All of the above makes it a stressful time when I make our appointments. I really am trying not to pass on my anxiety over the dentist office visits to my kiddos. They get treats and stickers for being well-behaved and I get to pay the bill. The best way to keep that bill manageable is to build healthy habits of caring for our teeth and gums.
I hear the dentist say it over and over again,” Brush and floss your teeth twice a day.” We do try to maintain a healthy regime of teeth care but what we sometimes overlook is how long we brush. I see my kids brush top and bottom of their teeth, swish with water and them spit. They are done within a few seconds and that is not going to prevent any cavities. Two minutes are what the dentist recommends and that is what makes this brush so awesome.
