Many a times we deny ourselves the usual chocolate cookies, pancakes, mousse, shakes, delicious gelato and all the other variants of these mellifluous eatables; just to cut on the calorie intake.
So, here we are; Ready with two Really Healthy and Really Tasty dessert recipes which come without much effort in preparation and with an actually good taste to dwell yourselves upon.
The first one is for the Nutrition Specific, Calorie Conscious Ones, who work out hard all the days in the gym and want to ENJOY their CHEAT DAY with a something SWEET that won’t do MUCH harm – Apple Wedges.
Apple Wedges can be cooked easily and has all the “Healthy” ingredients. Having Apple as its core ingredient, it is equally palpable for the people with sweet tooth and health conscious ones.
To prepare the serving for ONE Person, the recipe is as follows:
- Cut an Apple into even pieces and Core them.
- Soak all the pieces (unpeeled) in cold water and add a few drops of Lemon Juice.
- Drain the water after 5 to 10 minutes and let Apple pieces Dry completely.
- Spread some Natural Peanut Butter or cream cheese (as per your preference) evenly on one side of each apple piece
- Press them into a bowl of Toppings.
- You can use the following edibles as toppings for your Apple Wedges:
- Dried Cranberries
- Nuts (Chopped)
- Ground Flax meal
- Toasted Wheat Germ
Your Apple wedges are ready. You can refrigerate them or have them as is – as per your preference.<

Coming over to another indulging dessert which is preferred by most of us, COOKIES, we have a crunchier, mildly spiced version of the very famous Sable Cookie Recipe – Almond Nutmeg Sable Cookies. So here we go:
- The preparation time for the whole recipe will be: 1.30 hours
- Cooking Time: 15 minutes
- Ingredients for Apple Nutmeg Sable Cookies are:
- All Purpose Flour: 2 Cups
- Toasted Almonds, Chopped: ½ Cup
- Baking Powder: ½ Teaspoon
- Nutmeg, Freshly Grated: ¼ Teaspoon
- Butter: 10 Tablespoons
- Granulated Sugar: ½ Cup
- Egg: 1
- Vanilla Extract: 1 Teaspoon
- Egg White: 1 egg
- Water: 2 Teaspoons
Step 1: Take a medium bowl and mix Chopped Almonds, Flour, Baking Powder and Nutmeg and set it aside.
Step 2: Take a large mixing bowl and cream sugar and butter till the mixture is smooth. Add egg and vanilla mixture to it and mix in the contents of earlier bowl till a smooth dough is formed.
Step 3: Form a disk or 2 inch diameter log of the dough. Wrap it up in a plastic wrap and refrigerate it for 1 hour.
Step 4: Preheat the oven to 350F. Beat together the egg white and 2 teaspoons of water to prepare the egg wash.
Step 5: Take out the disk log of the dough and roll it out to a thickness of ¼ inches. Take a 2 – inch flute cookie cutter and cut out sables out of the dough.
Step 6: If you have given the dough a log shape, slice the log crosswise into coins of ¼ inch thickness.
Step 7: Egg wash the sables using a Brush and place them on a parchment lined baking sheet for 15 minutes. (Or till the edges are lightly browned)
Step 8: Allow the sables to cool for 2 minutes on the cookie sheet only and move them over to a wire rack afterwards to completely cool off.
So, Your Home Made cookies are ready with all the goodness of Almonds and hint of Nutmeg. Use it as a casual snack, a starter or a delicacy for your Cheat Day so you don’t have to CRUNCH extra on Monday Morning.
