4 Tips for Selecting an Egg Donor

There are many factors that can go into the selection of an egg donor. Your surrogacy agency will have already screened potential candidates for things like physical and psychological fitness, but other than that, the criteria will be entirely up to you.

Keep in mind that there are factors to think about before embarking on the surrogacy process. Another thing to keep in mind is surrogate mother cost. What traits and attributes should you be looking for in a donor? Here are just a few ideas.

1: Experience

If you’re worried about the efficacy of the fertility treatment, it might be easier to choose an egg donor who has a proven track record of success. Look at the number of eggs retrieved each cycle, how many were viable and how many times she’s donated overall.

2: Appearance

There’s no shame in wanting a beautiful donor to produce a beautiful baby. What color are her eyes and hair? How tall is she? What kind of resemblance does she have to her siblings? Are there any family features you should know about?

3: Age

For the best chance of success, it’s recommended that donors be between the ages of 21-35, but it’s up to you which end of the spectrum you’d like to explore. Older donors typically have more knowledge and insight into the process, but younger donors are more energetic and fit.

4: Connection to the Child

Some donors would like to maintain contact with the child or receive yearly pictures and updates. Others are content to give you their eggs and fade back into anonymity. Before you and your partner agree on a donor, make sure your ideas of the future are compatible.
