3 Things You Need to Know About Your Air Conditioning This Summer

1

Ah, summer is soon to be here, and many of us are brimming with delight. The truth is, summer brings along with it plenty of time for relaxation, rest, and—best of all—vacation! However, if you are staying indoors—particularly in your apartment, home, or studio—chances are high that an air conditioning unit will play a substantial role in the comfort of your living space.

There have been arguments against whether or not air conditioning is a luxury or a necessity. In truth, it could be considered both; but, for the most part, an air conditioning unit provides much more than your modern day fan.

An air conditioning unit circulates cold air throughout your entire home, allowing you, your family, or roommates the opportunity to relax in true comfort. After all, who wants to live in a sweltering environment where you could heat up an egg on your countertop? This does not have to be an option, but Carrier HVAC Systems—or any air conditioning system, for that matter—most certainly can be.

The job of your home air conditioner is move heat from inside your home to the outside, which ultimately cools both you and your home. Air conditioners blow cool air into your home by removing the heat out of that air. The air is cooled by blowing it over a set of cold pipes called an evaporator coil. It a weird way, this is the same concept of when water evaporates from your skin.

So, what do you need to know about air conditioning for this summer? Here are a few tools to follow which will make owning an air conditioning system—or maintaining a previous one—significantly easier.

1. Implement regular maintenance.

This is a biggie! If you already have an air conditioner, make sure that you have a skilled and trained technician to inspect it for any deficiencies. This is a particularly important idea to keep in mind. If your air conditioning unit is beyond repair, you will need to invest in a new one, which will inevitably leave you with more costs and ultimately more unwanted hassles. Having a tune-up never hurts and could even prevent future issues with your current air conditioning unit.

2. Consider ventilation.

One of the best ways to keep the temperature of your home at its maximum best is to consider or invest in ventilation. With this tool, you can keep all parts of your home ventilated, whether it is with spray form or any other means of ventilation. No lose cracks will remove your cold air, thereby leaving you with a nice, cool, and cost efficient home to relax in.

3. Look into the ducts.

Believe it or not, one major reason for cold air escaping your home is due to duct leakage. This leakage can sap up to 20 to 40% of the energy of even the most efficient air conditioner if the ducts pass outside the cooled space. This includes crawlspaces, garages, and attics (which would be better off having a ventilation system). Don’t underestimate your duct system—take a look and search for any leakage.

All in all, it is absolutely critical to take good care of your air conditioning and home this summer if you are anticipating hot weather. It never hurts to do any of the above tips suggested, so go ahead and prepare for the fun summer festivities that await!
