This past year has been a difficult one for me. With various health aliments that are now under control, I want to work on improving my mind, body and spirit. A Year of Living Mindfully: Seasonal Practices to Nourish Body, Mind, and Spirit by Randi Ragan is a book that will help me accomplish these goals. This book is geared towards people that live a busy life but want to live a healthier life. It’s main focus is created a lifestyle that is mindful. If we are mindful, it will lead us to be present in our lives because we are going to be noticing what’s going on around us. The philosophy of A Year of Living Mindfully is breaking the year into the season and focusing on different aspects each season.
In spring, the focus is detoxifying and renew. You will find beauty tips with DIY beauty recipes. There are also recipes like the Kale Lemon Ginger Smoothie to help detox your body. Tips on how to grow a healing herb garden at home. There is even a little background knowledge shared on sweat lodges and why they are good for us.
The Summer focus is to expand and energize. I loved this chapter because it gets into using Bach Flower remedies. I already use these from time to time, so I loved being able to learn about more ways to use them in my life.
In Autumn, it’s all about balance and fulfill. You’ll learn about new poses like the Vrkasana Tree Pose, a cranberry antioxidant face scrub, how to make an autumn super granola and so much more.
Winter is all about release and contemplate. Learn about dream journaling and getting ready for the new year. How a foot massage is about more than just your feet. Learn how to draw a cappuccino milk bath.
I like how the book is broken up into the season and that a new focus is presented each season. This makes the lifestyle changes seem less daunting and more attainable.
