Twin, Double, Queen or King – Which Mattress Size Should I Buy?

Mattress Sizes

The various mattress sizes that you can buy have been standardized over time, but they may vary slightly. You should choose your mattress to suit the size of your bed frame, but why would you choose a king size bed over a standard double?

Some people need plenty of space to sleep – especially if they are the type who move a lot throughout the night – while others are more regular sleepers, and like to sleep closer to their partner. The choice is yours, but let’s take a look at the regular mattress sizes:

Twin – The standard mattress size is 38”x75”, and is otherwise known as a single. It can also be found with extra length for those who are taller than average. Why would you buy a twin? If you live on your own – or are a student, perhaps, on a budget – you might choose this option for space saving.

Full – This is the smallest size of a double bed, and is suitable for smaller properties with a couple sharing, measuring 54”x75”. However, it can be quite cramped, so is usually only considered by people with very limited space and no other option.

Queen – The queen-size bed is perhaps the most popular option when it comes to doubles, and at 60”x 80” is a touch wider and longer than the above. It offers adequate comfort for couples and fits a regular double sized bed very nicely.

King – At 76”x 80”, the king-size is the ultimate in comfort and space, and for those with a room that can accommodate it, this may be the choice of bed size.

There are minor alterations to sizes – say for taller people – but the above tend to be the industry standards, so these dimensions should help you get an idea of what you can fit into your room.
