Okay, we all love a great deal. And in a lot of cases, shopping online is cheaper than buying that very same product in traditional, bricks and mortar stores. But it is possible to get even better deals online also. With a little bit of know how, you can make some really serious savings, even on sites such as eBay. Let’s take a look:
Flights:
Have you ever browsed an airline website to price flights, and then decided to go back at a later date to book, only to find that the price has suddenly jumped? The reason this happens is because many airlines log your computer’s IP address, and register your interest in that particular flight. If you use the same computer again, they up the price. You can avoid this by using free software, such as Hola Unblocker, available as an extension through Chrome. Also, timing is everything. The sweet spot for booking flights, to ensure the lowest prices is 7 weeks in advance.
Insurance:
You may find your insurance premium jumps year to year. It is worth investigating with other companies, to see if they can offer cheaper cover. You can then counter this with your current company, who may offer you an even lower price to ensure loyalty. Websites such as Kanetix are a great resource for getting good deals on all kinds of insurance also, such as travel, car or even pet insurance.
Auction Sites Such As eBay:
You can get some really good deals on eBay, by using an app for your phone called Fat Fingers. Many people listing items on eBay mistakenly misspell the name of their item. This means that the item will not show up when searched for (using the correct spelling). Using Fat Fingers, enter your search term, and the app will also search for misspelled items. You will often win the auction, unopposed, as nobody else using the eBay site can find the item you are bidding on! Typo Hound and Typo Bay are other, similar apps that work just as good. Look in your relevant app store for these apps, they are really very handy (no pun intended!)
Amazon Tips:
There are a good few things you can do to get some proper savings on Amazon. Firstly, try searching in their Warehouse Deals for the item you are looking for. Warehouse Deals are items that may have a very slight defect, or have an open package. These items are usually perfect, and are backed by Amazon’s usual guarantees. Another trick to try is, select your item, and add to your cart – but don’t check out. Wait a few days, and Amazon may offer you money off on that same item, or even vouchers to use against it. Finally, search for discounted Amazon Gift Cards in places such as GiftCardGranny.com – you will often find cards for much lower than their redeemable value!
