Daniel G. Amen, M.D. is a physician, child psychiatrist and ten-time New York Times best selling author. He is a gifted teacher and wonderful storyteller. He founded the Amen Clinics that are located across the United States.

I love to read to my kiddos. There is just something about getting together and reading a bed time story. I read before bed all the time and I think it stems from my parents reading to me. So many memories of my parents reading to me remind me of what a wonderful tradition it is. My kids will have the wonderful memories that I have, if I continually read to them before bed.
Life is hectic so we don’t get a book read every night. However, when I remember that it only takes a few minutes to read a book for a lifetime of memories, I usually make it a priority.
Bedtime in our house is early since we get up pretty early. The kids brush their teeth and make sure their room is picked up as well. We grab a book and I read a short story to them. I was thrilled to read this book to them since it looked adorable.
This is a wonderful book about a momma bear getting her little one to bed.
She talks about how the brain is cleaned while you sleep. It is a wonderful reminder about how important sleep is to each of us. Next, she tells a story of all the little stuffed animals and their long day trip to the beach.
Several times in this book the characters yawn after a long fun day in the sun. I was really surprised that I started to yawn too! This book really is powerful in its suggestions. It reminds me of the typical “you are getting very sleepy” trick. After reading, it is amazing how this book really helps you settle down the sleepyhead and get ready for a good nights sleep. It worked for my kids and myself so I know we will keep reading it.
