Teenage pregnancy is a serious topic, so it should come as no surprise that the media focuses on it quite a bit in order to raise awareness and to encourage teens to be more responsible when they become sexually active. From television shows on the topic, to talk shows that discuss this issue, and movies that focus on teen pregnancy, the message for safe sex is out there, especially for young people.

Riding in Cars with Boys

Starring Drew Barrymore, Riding in Cars with Boys is a great movie that focuses on the struggles of a teen who ends up getting pregnant. In this film, the lead character becomes pregnant at age 15, and she has to deal with being a single mother while also having aspirations of someday becoming a professional writer. And because she became pregnant in 1965, she has to deal with the social stigma and struggles of that era, which are quite different from today’s.

Juno

No list of teen pregnancy movies would be complete without mentioning the hit movie Juno. The best part about this film is the lead actress, Ellen Page, who really brings her quirky and funny character to life. Basically, Juno ends up having sex with Bleeker, who is her best friend. And when she ends up getting pregnant, she decides that she will give the baby up for adoption rather than have to go through an abortion. After finding the couple that could be the perfect parents for her child, things get even more complicated.

Precious

Precious is only 16 years old, but she has already been abused. She is also overweight and has a mentally challenged child. While living in a house with her grandmother, Precious becomes pregnant again, but when one of her teachers realizes that she had been abused, the teacher works on getting her to safety. Ultimately, a long and difficult journey finally reunites Precious with her first born, but she still needs to struggle with being a teenage mother of two children who needs to finish getting an education while avoiding the abuse she receives from her mother.

A Federal Case

Boat Angel, which is a charity group that takes donations of used boats and turns them into donations for those in need, helped produce the film A Federal Case. This movie focuses on teen pregnancy and religious drama. It was released in 2008 and is a great family film that discusses the story of a teen couple struggling with the consequences of becoming pregnant accidentally. Viewers dive into their world, seeing the pressure that the couple experiences both on their own and together.

For Keeps

For Keeps stars Molly Ringwald, and it is focused on her story as a high school senior. Darcy, the main character, is a good student, but when she starts sleeping with Stan, she accidentally gets pregnant, resulting in her parents thinking that her future is basically ruined as a result. Even though the teens’ parents want them to get an abortion or at least give the baby up for adoption, the couple decides that they want to make it work by keeping the baby. A series of bad choices results in their breakup, but they do make their way back to each other.

Saved!

Saved! is the story of a young Christian girl named Mary who does her best to be good but decides to give up her virginity to Dean, who is her boyfriend and who is trying to deny his homosexuality. Of course, this does not work to change his sexuality, but it does end up getting her pregnant. After becoming pregnant, she has to deal with a lot of negative, manipulative behavior from her supposed friends, but she ultimately decides to keep her baby rather than abort him or her, and she also manages to remain friends with Dean and his new boyfriend.
