Introducing The Spinfords! Who love to weave webs for you nightly! Webs are circles of all different sizes. But they are circles! PERIOD. Until baby Salvatore joins the show, his webs are different. His family does not understand so they feel disappointed and scared that he will destroy the show.
The family of circus-performing spiders have built their act on years and years of tradition. Salvatore throws a monkey wrench in their performance by creating different kinds of webs. His father says “over his squashed body will he let him perform”. Grandpa Sebastian Spinford started their show back in 1934, but he understood Salvatore and encouraged him to do his special webs.
When he came to the age to prove himself able to join the show – he made his web for them to judge and his parents just didn’t understand. Salvatore knew that everyone wanted new webs, new designs. Something new and fresh. His parents may not have approved but grandpa did. So with his grandpa’s help they set out to prove the crowd would love his new webs. My grandchildren love Salvatore and cheer him on.
My grandkids agree with grandpa and cheer Salvatore on. Today in our schools we have more and more cases of bullying. This worries me for my grandkids. I love books like this to help them realize that everyone isn’t exactly the same and that is ok. While reading this book they learn that it is ok to be different. Different is not always bad. When he shares his webs with the crowds they love him. Just goes to show that sometimes you have to give people a chance.
