Spring is almost here which means most of us will be heading back outside. With the longer days comes more exposure to sun and it’s harmful rays. Although the sun feels amazing and naturally boosts Vitamin D in our bodies and skin, it can also cause skin cancer, and age us as well. So we need to take steps to protect it.
Sun Exposure is Good and Bad
As I said, we need the sun to thrive. The sun is literally the center of our universe and without it, we would be nothing. That doesn’t mean it doesn’t come with risks. I personally watched my husband undergo three surgeries just to get rid on a very tiny patch of skin cancer on his cheek. (By tiny I mean, the size of a pencil eraser.) So what do we do? Well, there’s a few things we can do.
Apply sunblock. Not just once a day either. If you’re going to be in direct sunlight, or exposed all day, you need to reapply often. Same goes for if you’ll be swimming. Choose a sunblock with at least 30 SPF. Zinc! Zinc is your friend! It’s not only natural, its super safe to use, and will keep your skin from getting fried. If you don’t care for the white tint that accompanies zinc, then opt for titanium dioxide. It’s more expensive, but isn’t as chalky.
After Sun Care
If you’re worried about the aging effects of the sun, then this is just as important as sunblock. It never phased me, but now that I’m in my upper thirties, I’m starting to be more concerned with how I care for my skin AFTER being in the sun all day. I love Immune Shield by Frownies®.
Frownies® Immune Shield
This serum is perfect for any time your skin is inflamed. I use it every time I’ve been out in the sun. It’s great for the redness associated with acne too! The serum is high in ceramides which act like your skin membrane and help support it, and improve its appearance. Vitamin E is a proven anti-oxidant that heals and protects skin, and even helps scarring. The best part is that Immune Serum is all natural, fragrance free, vegan, and NOT tested on animals. And it works!
