Private Schools Are Becoming The New Norm In 21st Century Society

As the 21st century continues to unfold, it is increasingly clear that private schools, such as the Archer School for Girls and many others across the nation, are becoming the new norm for educational purposes. While the era of the conventional, state-sponsored public school is far from finished, it is nonetheless clear that new demands are being made on the children of America that the old model of “public” education may simply not be sufficiently equipped to deal with.

The Fight Between Private And Public Education Is Becoming Politicized

As such, the debate between proponents of the two systems is gearing up to radically redefine the basic meaning of receiving an education in the new century. In certain regions of the country, the struggle between proponents of public versus private education has taken on a definite partisan tone. However, none of this should obscure the fact that many private schools have routinely ranked among the best rated in the nation.

Populist Rhetoric Vs. Private Privilege In The New Century

For many observers, the contrast between private and public education boils down to the age old “class conflict” between populist egalitarianism and private privilege. Many critics of this conflict allege that the children of the rich and influential have always enjoyed an advantage over poorer children, simply by virtue of their privileged position. While such measures as Common Core have attempted to redress this disproportionate phenomenon, many critics of the system feel that it errs too far on the side of “artificially equalizing” educational standards.

Public Vs. Private Education: A Radical Divide In Principles

However, the stated goal of public education has been to do all in its power to erase these distinctions of class and privilege in order to provide a well rounded education to all children. However, with the radical upheaval of society that has taken place in the post-war era, many critics of the American educational system have emerged to question whether it is truly doing enough to prepare children for the modern world.

What The Rise Of Private Education Means For Society In The New Century

Many pundits and industry experts are predicting radical changes in the system of education that will be extended to future generations of Americans as the present century continues to unfold. For example, many are predicting that more and more children will receive their education from private, rather than public, schools, and that many of these schools will be parochial or even ideological in nature, rather than generically “all inclusive” as the majority of public schools have always been.

The Advantages Offered By Private Schooling Are Many

While the debate between proponents of public and private education will undoubtedly continue, it is nonetheless true that many private schools have become paragons of education excellence, and deserve much credit for their efforts to educate a new generation. Because most of these schools are funded by purely private means, parents who wish their children to be educated in a certain manner, with an emphasis on particular subjects, can be sure that their children will receive exactly that. In the end, the privilege of extending to their child a private education is one that should be given serious consideration by any parent who is in a position to consider doing so.
