A Story with a Purpose!

Have you been bullied before?  I’m going to bet a lot of people will say YES!  My daughter was for a couple of years in school, due to a physical handicap.  We were told by the school that kids would be kids and if my child weren’t so emotional then maybe the kids wouldn’t pick on her.  Well, that was devasting for us to hear and deal with so the next school year we homeschooled.  Being a BULLY is not cool!

However, my daughter this year said she was READY for public school, and yes the bullying started again, but my daughter held strong!  She became an advocate of others (like herself) that are bullied every day.  She doesn’t want other kids to feel like like she did and so she speaks up now when she sees someone bullying another child who may not be able to speak up for themselves.

But as a parent, I feel that a lot of the nasty things that happen at school come from the home.  Our kids go by our examples of how we treat people.  Speak to your children about how people should be treated and not being a bully.  I think the most important message is “Speak Up” don’t just sit there and let someone getting bullied, don’t be a part of that at all! Parents need to teach their kids how to be an ADVOCATE, not a BULLY!

My daughter and I was introduced to a cute book – Princess Adventures that you can CREATE for the little girl in your life. Even though my daughter is almost a teenager, she enjoyed and appreciated the message this book gives to kids.  Speak Up!  Let the bully know it’s not cool and how would they FEEL!  Kids want to be accepted by their peers so much they allow others to do wrong…let your children know this is not right.

This a STORY with a PURPOSE!   My daughter loves reading the book with her name in it…Princess Sahara and she even has a pet dog, named Rose. She loved how the Princess Sahara stood up for the kid that everyone calls UGLY just because he is different. She said that reminded her of a kid in her class that has autism and most the class picks on him but she will stand up and tell people to stop.  She might get picked on for that but she doesn’t care, she can’t let that go on without speaking up. So she related to this book a lot.

Please, PARENTS, let’s get the word out and SPEAK UP with our kids.  Learning starts at home so check this book out and have a discussion with your child about bullying.  Books like this expose your children to what happens and how to react. Plus, after working with professionals, who are accustomed to editing children’s books, even small children can read them on their own!

I love that you can choose the skin tone. I'd love to see a bit more diversity though.
