Although I’m sure we all hope that a disaster doesn’t occur in our area, it’s always helps to be prepared in case one does. It doesn’t matter if it’s a natural disaster such as an earthquake or hurricane, or a man-made disaster; being prepared may make a difference in your family’s survival. Here are some things you can do that can help you to put together a house disaster kit that will be beneficial in times of distress.
The most important things for you to include in any disaster survival kit are water and food. You need to ensure that you have a minimum of three days worth of water for every member of your family. Keep in mind, you’re not only going to need water for drinking purposes, you will also need it for cooking and for hygiene. The food that is included in the kit should either be dehydrated or canned, but it should absolutely be nonperishable. Make sure that you have something available to open any cans that you may have in your home emergency disaster kits.
You should also have a fresh supply of batteries and some electronic equipment so that you can get any news or information that you need. A prepaid cell phone is also an important item, although you would want to have a way to charge the cell phone without the use of electricity. Finally, make sure that you have plenty of first aid supplies, just in case you need them (Source: Smart Survival Kits).
