Both my brother in law and uncle love green tea and have at least 2 cups a day, I would rather they drink tea then coffee. This green tea powder from Japan is used for drinking as tea or as ingredient in recipes. The taste is great a good combination. The health benefits of matcha is great, good for diabetics, or those wishing to reduce sugar content.
This is a great tea for my Uncle because he is a diabetic and we are always trying to get him to eat and drink less coffee like I mentioned. The quality of the powder is really good. You only need a tiny bit of it to make an aromatic and strong cup of tea. You only need a small amount other wise it will come out a little to strong.
When it comes to the actual product, when you open the sealed bag, all you see is a vibrant green tea in a powdered form! The Matcha was smooth, and tasted sweet even without adding the frothy milk, and sugar. My brother in law of course had to use milk and sugar.
They loved the light flavor of this tea and it dissolves so easily. Matcha is a fine-ground, powdered, high-quality green tea. Matcha is made from shade-grown tea leaves. The preparation of matcha starts several weeks before harvest and can last up to 20 days, when the tea bushes are covered to prevent direct sunlight. This slows down growth, stimulates an increase in chlorophyll levels, turns the leaves a darker shade of green, and causes the production of amino acids, in particular L-Theanine. Only the finest tea buds are hand-picked. The leaves are laid out flat to dry, they will crumble somewhat and become known as tencha. Tencha can then be de-veined, de-stemmed, and stone-ground to the fine, bright green, talc-like powder known as matcha. It can take up to one hour to grind 30 grams of matcha. The highest grades of matcha have more intense sweetness and deeper flavour than the standard or coarser grades of tea harvested later in the year.
