Liam used to LOVE getting input from sticky things, (now he hates it) so a few years ago, I made up this Ocean Themed Sensory Pool for him. He adored it! It was easy, and super cheap to do. Most of the items you’ll have in your cupboard.

As you can see, if you don’t use a bit of oil, your noodles will stick together some.

    Let’s get started!

NEED:

Spaghetti Noodles (cooked) (various thickness or noodles are great too!)

Food Dye

Vegetable/Olive/Canola Oil

Old Bowls or Gallon Bags

Ocean Themed Toys (Easily found at Dollar Tree)

Wading Pool (You can use the tub, but let’s be honest, this is a mess for OUTSIDE!)

Look at that smile! (He was 6 here.)

That’s it! Okay, to start, cook your pasta. Drain and let cool. Now, put a few drops of oil inthe pasta and stir it around. All this is for is to prevent the noodles from sticking together. Next, separate your pasta into bowls or bags for coloring. Add desired colors, and mix around. Let noodles dry for 10-15 minutes.

I even tried it out! Liam thought Betty Boop needed some hair.

Add pasta to the pool, and toss in those ocean toys. Now the next part is up to you. You can add water to the pool to make it seem like the ocean. The noodles are like seaweed. If you add water, a bit of dye may come off, so that’s why the choice is yours. (Liam has played with them both ways, and preferred the water added.)

Liam lining up the animals. Two by two like Noah!

Voila! Cheap, easy and fun sensory play at home! This used to be, by far, one of his most favorite ways to play! So enjoy!

This is a great idea for kids with sensory needs. Even if you are getting therapy, you still need to support that at home.
