My family loves Epsom Salts. We use them for everything. Liam won’t take a bath without his salts! So when The Epsom Salt Council reached out to us at Kelly’s Thoughts on Things, and asked if we’d like some, I was quick to say yes!
For those that may not know, Epsom salt is actually magnesium sulfate. It’s a pure and natural, mineral compound. The uses for Epsom salts, are endless. I was first introduced to them as a teen. I had an ingrown toe nail, and my parents had me soaking my foot in Epsom Salts a few times a day. It helped soothe the inflammation, soften the nail, and draw some of the infection from my toe.
Soaking an infected toe isn’t the only home remedy that you can use Epsom salts for. It can be used to help relieve inflammation in sore muscles, by adding some to your bath. I love to make my own bath salts with Epsom Salts and essential oils. Have a headache? Pour some magnesium sulfate in your bath, and add a few drops of peppermint oil. Cold or flu? Epsom salts mixed with eucalyptus oil is great sinus relief.
Many Autism parents have their children soak in Epsom Salt baths. It has been found that autistics have a sulfate deficiency. Symptoms of this are reddened ears, dark under eye circles, hyper activity, disturbed sleep, and more. By having your child soak in magnesium sulfate a few times a week, they absorb the mineral through their skin. It also helps to calm them. Add in a bit of lavender essential oil and it’s even more relaxing. I take my epsom salts, and pour some in a bowl. Then I add in an essential oil of choice, and a few drops of food coloring of Liam’s choosing. Mix it all up, let it dry and pour in a jar. Then you have a nice Epsom salt soak all ready for your child’s bath.
These are the only uses. Epsom salts is great for plants! They help them grow greener, and yield more blooms. Feed your house plants with a monthly mixture of one gallon of water, and two tablespoons of magnesium sulfate. Your plants will love you for it! You can also enrich your garden soil bu sprinkling one cup of salts over every 100 square feet. Mix the soil and start planting your garden.
As you can see, the uses for this amazing product are endless. If you have yet to discover how amazing Epsom salts are, now is your time to find out.
