We have finally decided that after the holidays we are going to start eating healthy and making a lot of changes in our lives. With everything going on in our lives we need to take better care of ourselves.
Been looking at all kinds of books and trying to figure out what would be best for me. National Geographic has put out some helpful books.National Geographic Foods for Health: Choose and Use the Very Best Foods for Your Family and Our Planet,for starters, this is a great book has given me a lot of ideas on what to use and other things.

Featuring dozens of tips, food pairings, and sample menus, this attractive book is a culinary tour of the 148 foods that have huge nutritional value with the least environmental impact. This guide explores food and its place in cultures around the world; highlights what it adds to healthy menus today; and advises consumers on what to look for, how to choose, how to prepare and what to avoid in order to make best choices for the table and for the planet.
There is a brief history, a blurb on how to choose and use the item, a section on the health benefits of the item, preparation tips, pairings with other foods, and how the food item impacts the planet. There is also a section on the general nutritional content of the item, but sadly no percentages. Without the percentages it is hard to know if food is packed with antioxidants or has just a smattering. Finding a lot of healthy ideas Can not wait to try these out and get us all into better shape. The book has sample menus for each of the major seasons featuring the produce and like of that time of the year such as Sping Autumn etc.
The second book I have been reading a lot about is National Geographic Kids Cookbook: A Year-Round Fun Food Adventure

It’s organized by month and contains relevant recipes and food-culture facts about each month. It’s the kind of book I can imagine we’ll be taking out all year round to make recipes and look up information.
For example, September has a few sandwich recipes, and an introduction to quinoa with a back to school theme and craft projects such as making your own reusable lunch bag.
Everything about the book is kid-friendly, inviting and interactive. The photographs are a treat to behold as mouth-watering dishes are displayed for your visual delight.
We have been cooking and baking with my son trying to mimic the things he does at school more, he loves to bake and we have found some really good things in this book for him. Both of these books have helped me with recipes and getting into the better eating habit.
