My Dream for You is Happiness is a new children’s book by Carole Ann Housman, and illustrated by Joanne Raptis. When Liam’s copy of the book came, the first thing he said was, “Mama! Look at the pictures! They are like paintings!” He was right. The illustrations in this book are gorgeous and adorable. Before you even read the sweet story, you will get the feels from the pictures.
We set about reading this book immediately, and it actually brought tears to my eyes. No joke. As parents, we all have the same dreams for our children. As autism parents, sometimes our dreams for our children change. However, one thing we can all agree on and attest to, is that we ALL dream of happiness for our children.
My Dream for You is Happiness, is a beautiful bedtime, or any time story. Written in the first person point of view, this book entails what we, as parents wish for our children. Happiness. I loved how it even touched on bad days. That even if something doesn’t go your way, you need to try to find happiness.
“There will be tummy aches, and stormy days. It’s okay. You can still be happy. You don’t have to be tall to be happy. You don’t have to have lots of toys to be happy.”
Important life lessons, that as parents we try to instill in our children. This book can invoke talking with your children about what doesn’t make them happy, but what about them is amazing. Which is what we did. Liam said it bothers him that he isn’t good at sports like other kids. He went on to say that being good at math and being funny made him happy, and not care too much about what he is “bad at.”
One of my favorite parts of the book. I think all parents do this at night. We can all definitely relate to this beautiful story.
