I love fantasy and make believe. Meditations in Wonderland was a great read. Elizabeth is 24 and like some of us, struggle with inner demons and darkness.
Elizabeth seems to have the perfect life – a long term relationship with her high school boyfriend, happy home and support from everyone. Inside she is trying to hang onto goodness and trying to forget and work through all of the darkness in her life.
Elizabeth falls into a rabbit hole during her meditation one day and has an amazing eye opening adventure. Wonderland holds terror and wonder as Elizabeth looks for Alice to face her. To work through some of her issues.
She examines why she has to take uppers to feel ok with herself and why she has to hide this from Adam her boyfriend since high school. Alice is Elizabeth’s doppelganger for this story. Alice takes Elizabeth on a journey through wonderland that includes all of your favorite characters from the original story.
Cheshire Cat becomes a strand to her consciousness and tell her the truth, even when she doesn’t want to hear it. Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum are mirrors and Alice becomes the inner voice that forces her to face her dark side. The masks that we wear for society as well as for ourselves. This is a well written story of self acceptance. So many topics are discussed and explored, drug addiction, madness, reality, relationships, self worth, symbolism. How your subconscious can affect your conscious behaviour.
I loved reading this story because Alice in Wonderland was one of my favorite childhood stories. This twist on an old classic is a modern story of one woman’s decision to take back her own life and make her own choices. I understood Elizabeth’s struggle and love her journey. This is a very good read and worth your time.
