How to Make Your Home a Better Environment for Kids

If you have children, there are some improvements you might be able to make around your home that will turn your living space into a kid-friendlier environment. In addition to making it easier for your kids to function around the home, many of these tips can also keep your little ones safe.

Buy Furniture That’s Appropriately Sized

There are many furniture pieces on the market that are made specifically for kids. Child-sized beds are made to fit smaller bodies and generally sit closer to the floor, which can keep kids from falling a long way to the ground and hurting themselves. You can also pick up a set of adjustable table legs that can be set to different heights as your children grow. There are even folding chairs, armchairs and sofas made to accommodate little ones.

Childproof All Necessary Areas

There are certain areas of your home that may be dangerous for young children to access without parental supervision. Childproof medicine lockboxes and pill organizers can prevent little ones from getting into potentially dangerous medications and other medical supplies. Gates are made to keep young children from going outdoors, onto stairways and accessing other areas where hazards may lurk. You can also purchase some safety locks to place on your cabinets and drawers.

Set Up an Arts and Crafts Station

Many kids love to explore their creative sides, and setting up an arts and crafts station will be perfect for your children. Your station should include items like paper, crayons and markers. Paste or glue should also be included. You may even want to pick up some beads, glitter or other clever items that can make arts and crafts projects more exciting. If you don’t mind cleaning up, you can also put some paints, brushes and other painting products in the station.

Make Some Extra Room for Toy Storage

If you’re like most parents, you probably feel inclined to buy many of the latest toys that come on the market for your children. The abundance of toys can add further clutter to your home, and you can get some extra storage units to solve this problem. Some small storage units are made to fit perfectly underneath chairs and beds. Another advantage to buying some additional storage units is that it will make it easier for you to keep the toys organized, which will allow your children to find certain items they are looking for faster.

Invest in Some Footstools

Since it will be a while before your little ones reach full height, it would be a good idea to get some footstools. These footstools can be used by your children to access sinks, shelves and other areas that may be out of their reach. Just be careful to not get footstools that are too high in order to keep your children from falling and becoming seriously injured. You can also pick up replacement furniture legs!

Creating a more child-friendly environment within your home is easy if you’re willing to take the proper measures and invest in some extra supplies. A home setting that’s more suitable for kids is sure to make you and your children feel more at ease.

These truly are some GREAT tips! My 15 month old is now more mobile than ever, and I really think he'd enjoy some baby-sized furniture. He's often trying more and more things independently, so I think it would be beneficial for the entire family. Thanks so much for sharing! <3
