When we were growing up there was a similar kind of safari, and every weekend we would go with our grandparents. Jungle Habitat was one of the few places that we loved to go. Being able to see the animals in their natural habitat, brought back so many memories, when I had the chance to go through the Lion County Safari.

At the time it was the first drive-through safari park in the country and introduced a new concept to animal lovers, “The Cageless Zoo.” Meaning all the animals roam free and have no worries in the world of being hunted or hurt. This is also the only safari in the whole United States. With over 900 different animals.

Among the more notable species on display at the park are lions, white rhino, chimpanzees, zebra, and giraffe. Being able to drive through and see all the different animals, they opened up in 1967.  Lion Country Safari has a four-mile drive-through preserve, over 200 campsites, 6 stores, 3 food outlets, a sewer plant, a veterinary hospital, an animal demonstration theater, gas station, and 170 employees who work to care for animals, and who maintain and operate the facility. It also offers a number of educational programs for school, scout, and tour groups, as well as a summer day camp.

You will be amazed at all the animals you see and they are all close enough to touch, but  can not. They have a feeding part of the zoo and you can even ride a camel, I did that when I was growing up and it was so much fun, so many things to see and do. The safari is actually broken up into different parts and all the animals from that part are together.

The walk through begins with the boat ride on the Safari Queen where you will learn about the siamangs and spider monkeys that inhabit the islands of Lake Shanalee. Theres a petting zoo and you can feed some of those animals. Bring your bathing suit because there are water rides and ao much more.

This was a great day spent in the drive through Safari, we had such a great time and all the animals were a;; so beautiful. Seeing them free is really an amazing site.
