Did you know that it’s Lava® Lamps 50th Anniversary? How cool is that? Almost as cool as the lamps themselves! They recently sent Liam one of their 27″ Grande Lamps to try out. When he opened the box, he screamed! He used to have a small version of the same lamp, but sadly it got knocked off his dresser and broke a few years ago. When he saw how big the Grande Lava® Lamp was, he was excited. Of course he had me plug it right in for him.
While we waited for the wax to heat up, we went on their website to check out all the other lamps. Lava® Lamps have come a long way from days of yore! They will surely have a lamp to please anyone in your family. Not only do they have different sizes, but they have different colors, Beatles versions, metallic, colormax and more! They even have regular lamps with a Lava® lamp attached to it.
After we looked at all the cool lamps, we then spun the wheel of history on the Lava® Lamp web site to learn more. In 1963 Edward Craven Walker, invented the first Lava® Lamp. By 1975, they exploded in popularity and many homes in the US had a Lava® Lamp. In 1990, Lava® Lamps once again jumped to popularity. This time, they introduced a 32″ inch globe, called the Electroplasma. In 1998, a year after the movie Austin Powers came out (which had many Lava® Lamps in it) the company introduced their 20″ globe lamp. This is still the most popular size. I have to admit though, Liam and I are digging our “ginormous” Lava® Lamp. Bigger is better!
After a couple of hours, our lamp was heated up and looking awesome! Liam and I were both mesmerized by it. I have to say, a Lava® Lamp makes a great calming tool. I actually have moved ours from the living room, and into our bedroom. Liam can watch it as he falls asleep every night, and it makes a great night light too!
Lava® Lamp has something for every one, and with prices ranging from $12.99 and up, there’s something for every budget. Check them out at http://lavalamp.com/
