How to keep your kids happy and having fun this summer!

Summer fun is finally here and school is out!

The sun is shining, the birds are singing and the world is a brighter place. We just love summer. I love getting more time to spend with my kids, the warm weather and all the activities available. I;ve spent a lot of time cleaning my house in the spring so that I could enjoy more time outside now that summer is here. What constantly surprises me is that in the past, after a few weeks of summer vacation, my kids actually say they are bored and don’t know what to do. I had to fix that! So for the last few years we have had a schedule of activities that keep everyone happy and having fun all summer long.

Here is some activities we do every week and how we keep busy all summer long!

Light cleaning. What is fun about cleaning? On Mondays, we put on some fun music and all dance around while we get the house back in order. After a weekend, our house seems to get cluttered with toys out of place and other items that need to be put where they belonged. A good half hour of fun tunes, crazy moves and cleaning up gets my house ready for the week.

Play a board game. Screen free time is important to fit in to remind your kids that life does not begin and end with an electronic device. Every week we have a game night and play “old school” with a board game.

Library day! I love library day. We head out to our library and find some books to read. We go every week so we only have to pick a few at a time.

Park Day! We usually find time to stop at a local park too! There are so many parks in our area that we switch it up every week to keep things interesting. We use the tennis courts, soccer fields and baseball diamonds for a fun game too.

Picnic day! Yes we have a picnic. It is so easy to make lunch and head outside to eat it. We go with peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and fresh fruit. Easy to make and so much fun to choose a spot.

By the lake, at the park or even in our back yard we find a shady spot and let the crumbs fall where they may.

Bowling day. We go bowling every week. It is an awesome program that each child gets two free games every day in the summer. You have to pay for the shoe rental but it is worth it. Check out this awesome program at kidsbowlfree.com to see if there is a participating bowling alley near you!

Craft day. Make a fun craft together. I love that you can choose something easy or hard and work together. Pull out the legos and create something amazing, or use playdough. Whatever you choose it it fun to see what you can make!

Baking day. Make cookies or bars together. I wait till it is a rainy day and then we bake something. Whatever ingredients we have on hand makes a fun treat to enjoy.

Then there is always playing in the back yard. Make a scavenger hunt, go on a treasure search, make an obstacle course or try your hand at building a fort. Whatever activity you choose I am sure you will make memories as you do it together as a family.  Happy Summer to all! What is your favorite summer activity?
