More and more people are learning the amazing benefits of yoga. I myself, have started incorporating simple stretches into my daily life, to help with my chronic pain and stiffness. Today we’re going to talk about yoga and also about Karma SUPtra. A new kind of yoga!
What is yoga?
Well, unless you live under a rock, you’ve most likely heard about yoga. But do you know exactly what it is? Yoga is technically a Hindu spiritual discipline, in which you control your breathing, and meditate, while performing specific bodily postures. I have also learned that there are actually SEVERAL different types of yoga. Check some of these out!
- Hatha Yoga is a system of physical poses designed to purify the body and give you control over your internal state and readying you for meditation.
- Mantra Yoga is where you center yourself using the repetition of certain words.
- Karma Yoga is a selfless service in which you perform all actions while knowing God is the doer.
Let’s talk about Karma SUPtra Yoga
Now that we know a bit about yoga, let’s talk about Karma SUPtra yoga. Simply put, it’s a fun combination of yoga, and SUPing, in a sense. SUP is an acronym for Stand Up Paddle boarding. SUP is gaining popularity as it’s a hybrid of surfing, where you stand up on the board, and use a paddle to maneuver yourself and the board. Julie has combined SUP and Yoga to create a new and intense workout.
The Karma SUPtra board is lightweight, and it looks like a cross between a surf board and a skim board. This board is designed to be used indoors and is supported by a series of inflatable cushions. These cushions increase or decrease the stability of the board. (If you’ve ever seen the fidget cushions for autistic kids, these kind of resemble those.) The board width allows for the user to open their stance and the cushions emulate SUPing and bring it indoors.
