Do you remember “The Boxcar Children” by Gertrude Chandler Warner? As a child, I used to read “The Boxcar Children” books and remember them fondly as some of my very favorite childhood stories! I always thought it would be so cool to live in a boxcar train as they did and try to be creative in my survival skills. The series is a bestseller of children’s books (having sold over 70 million books worldwide) and it just celebrated its 75th anniversary. And, guess what? On August 7th, 2018, Shout! Kids and Legacy Classics are bringing out a new feature called “The Boxcar Children – Surprise Island.”
In this feature, the four children, Henry, Jessica, Violet, and Benjamin, are living with their wealthy, kind grandfather, James Alden (starring the iconic voice of Martin Sheen). It’s summer time and the kids’ grandfather surprises them with an upcoming, exciting, summer adventure. Where? At an island owned by the Alden family. And, now, instead of living in a boxcar, the children get to spend the summer living in an old barn. When they arrive on the island, the children meet the caretaker and a surprise, mysterious inhabitant named Joe. Joe is a young man who appears kind in nature. However, there is a secret surrounding Joe that adds an intriguing mystery to the story. You’ll have to watch “The Boxcar Children – Surprise Island” to find out what happens!
The movie also stars the voices of J.K. Simmons, Griffin Gluck, Dane DeHaan, and more. And, to make it even better, this feature is the first of three new features. So, there are more Boxcar Children adventures on the way!!
It’s A Show For Everyone!
This feature is a family-friendly movie and is recommended for children of the ages 3-13. It’s Dove approved for all ages, so it truly would be a perfect show for family movie night!
