Get More Family Fun Out of Your TV Viewing

If your family currently doesn’t have as much fun together as it should do then the television could be both the problem and the solution.

One of the big problems many families now find is that each member heads off on their own to their room to watch something different. This means that there is little chance of spending time together even when you are all at home. You might bump into each other into the kitchen or on the way to the bathroom but wouldn’t it be better to spend more quality time together? In fact, in many families the time in front of the box is one of the few occasions in which they are all together. So how can you enjoy more of this?

Get the Best Possible Reception

Having a TV with terrible reception is sure to put everyone off the idea of watching it together. After all, it won’t be a great experience to all sit there and try to work out what on Earth is going on. The problem of poor TV reception is still a problem for many homes. It could even be that there is better reception up in the bedrooms than down in the living room, which would be another reasons why everyone heads to their room in the evenings. On the other hand, if the main TV in the living room has a sparklingly clear picture then there is more chance of everyone wanting to watch it.

Organise Special Family TV Events

Wouldn’t it be great to all sit down together in front of the television and enjoy a fun family evening? If you want to do this on a regular basis then it just takes a bit of effort to make it something special for all of you. For example, you could make special snacks that you know everyone loves or buy something a home popcorn maker. You could also consider drawing up some sort of fun schedule that you put on the wall, so that everyone knows the times not to miss. These events can be brilliant fun and can really help to break up the routine of the week.

Get Digital TV

If the programmes on your main television set in the living room are the same as the ones in the bedrooms then this could be one of the reasons why no-one sticks around watch with the family. A great idea is to look up digital TV aerial installers in your area and get some extra quality programmes into your living room. This will give the family a huge incentive to stick together and watch some quality shows all together. If you take a quick look through the digital TV programming just now you should find that it is packed with a lot of stuff that is sure to interest all of the members of the family. Of course, having it in the living room but not in the bedrooms gives everyone an incentive to leave their rooms when they want to watch something special.

Make the Living Room More Comfortable and Suitable

If you want to attract the whole family to spend more time together in the living room then you should probably consider making it more comfortable. The start point is probably with the seating arrangements. Obviously buying new sofas and chairs would be a big expense. Instead of doing this perhaps you could simply get the existing ones freshly upholstered and buy some new cushions to make everyone more comfortable. You should also think about the temperature in the room and whether a thicker pair of curtains would help make TV viewing more enjoyable there.

Don’t Fight Over What You Watch

Perhaps the biggest issue of all for most families is around what is on the screen. After all, one of the reasons why they all go to their own rooms in the first place is probably so they can watch what they want to. There is no easy solution to this, especially if there is a wide range of tastes and interests in the family group. However, perhaps the best solution is to look through the TV guides and see what programs you are sure everyone will want to watch at the same time. There are sure to be a few things like this, such as big sporting events or the finale of everyone’s favorite reality show. If you can pick out a few shows and encourage everyone to watch them together it is a terrific start. Even if you only watch maybe a few hours together throughout the week this can turn into a regular routine very quickly. Over time you can look for other shows to add to the list of things you all watch together.
