As parent’s, we all strive to teach our children life lessons. When we find an adorable book to reinforce them, then I feel we should share it with all the families that we can. So today I want to tell you about Ellie the Wienerdog™.
Introducing Ellie the Wienerdog!
Open Door Press is so very proud to introduce you and your youngsters to Ellie the Wienerdog™. Like her legs, Ellie likes short walks. (Preferably not on the beach because sand likes to stick to her feet!) She loves treats, laying in the sunshine, more treats, having a good book read to her, a good back scratch, a nap, bread, and being tucked in at night. (Ellie must be my doppelgänger because I love a lot of those things too!) Ellie is a real life dachshund, and she is absolutely precious!
It’s Hard to be Good
Isn’t that the truth? In lesson one of Ellie the Wienerdog™ Life Little Lessons, Ellie works so hard to be good. She loves to be told what a wonderful girl she is, yet life’s temptations are sometimes hard to resist. This book reinforces that if we make good decisions the reward in the end is worth so much more, than giving in, getting instantaneous gratification, and then feeling bad because we made the wrong choice. Kids and adults alike will be able to relate to this ongoing life battle.
What do we think?
First of all, I was drawn to this book because we have furbaby mutt (Josie) that has some dachshund in her, and it reminded me of her. Secondly because Liam adores his Josie and loves all things “wienerdog.”
As far as the book itself, the illustrations are absolutely adorable and very eye-catching! Author K.J. Hales nails a great story that is perfect for kids of all ages! Personally, I think all preschools and elementary school classrooms can benefit from Ellie’s lessons. Parents will love her too, and will definitely want copies for their own children.
In Liam’s words: “I loved this book! I read it all by myself. It was funny. Ellie is so cute. She looks kind of like my Josie!”
