For those of you that don’t know I suffer from Eczema. I was diagnosed with Eczema about 10 years ago. I had a rash on my arm that just wouldn’t go away, I went to 3 different dermatologist until finally I was diagnosed right. I have Eczema in my scalp and I also breakout on all parts of my body. I can deal with it on my arms, legs, back or any part hidden by clothes, but there are times I breakout on my face. That is the only time I get upset, because I can’t hide it there. I can’t wear any rings on my right hand, I break out if I do even using the mouse for the computer makes my palm breakout, so I cover my hand.
What is Eczema:
Eczema is a general term for many types of skin inflammation (dermatitis). The most common form of eczema is atopic dermatitis (sometimes these two terms are used interchangeably). However, there are many different forms of eczema. People with eczema often have a family history of the condition or a family history of other allergic conditions, such as asthma ohay fever. Atopic dermatitis is believed to belong to a group of related diseases including food allergy, asthma, and allergic rhinitis that tend to develop in sequence, suggesting that atopic dermatitis early in life may lead to or predict later allergic diseases.
My brother also suffers from eczema and so does my son, so we do have a family history of eczema. Eczema is not contagious, but since it is believed to be at least partially inherited, it is not uncommon to find members of the same family affected.
What are some causes of eczema:
Some forms of eczema can be triggered by substances that come in contact with the skin, such as soaps, cosmetics, clothing, detergents, jewelry, or sweat. Environmental allergens (substances that cause allergic reactions) may also cause outbreaks of eczema. Changes in temperature or humidity, or even psychological stress, can lead to outbreaks of eczema in some people.
I know when my body gets hot and I start to sweat I then start to itch. I always have to be careful about what makeup I use, soaps ect.. As I said above I can’t wear any rings on my right hand and boy oh boy when I am stressed out I breakout really bad. I try to control all this so I don’t have a breakout. Sometimes it can be hard.
What are eczema symptoms and signs:
Eczema most commonly causes dry, reddened skin that itches or burns although the appearance of eczema varies from person to person and varies according to the specific type of eczema. Intense itching (pruritus) is generally the first symptom in most people with eczema. Sometimes, eczema may lead to blisters and oozing lesions, but eczema can also result in dry and scaly skin (xerosis is the medical term for dry skin). Repeated scratching may lead to thickened, crusty skin (lichenification).
While any region of the body may be affected by eczema, in children and adults, eczema typically occurs on the face, neck, and the insides of the elbows, knees, and ankles. In infants, eczema typically occurs on the forehead, cheeks, forearms, legs, scalp, and neck.
Eczema can sometimes occur as a brief reaction that only leads to symptoms for a few hours or days, but in other cases, the symptoms persist over a longer time and are referred to as chronic dermatitis.
I am thankful that when I do get a breakout, it only stays around for a week maybe more. Then I get a break for about a month and starts back again. I just wanted to share this with my readers and let you all know a little information about eczema.
