Easy Ways to Make Your Student Accommodation Homely

Moving away for school, even if you don’t go far, is incredibly exciting. But, it can be hard to make your accommodation look nice. This is especially difficult if you are sharing and only get a small room to yourself. You’re probably on a tight budget and limited as to what you are allowed to change, but you want a place that feels safe and comfortable while expressing your personality and style. It can sometimes also be difficult to find a balance if you haven’t moved away from home, perhaps because you are studying an online HIM degree. Here are some great tips to help make your accommodation homelier, wherever you live.

Photos

Photographs are a brilliant way of reminding you of home and creating wonderful new memories. Photo frames come in all different shapes and sizes, to suit any tastes. Or you could make your own photo collage for your walls.

Bed Linen

Bed linen is generally one of the first truly “grown up” things we buy. It can be relatively inexpensive and is a great way to experiment with colors and styles. Your bed linen can easily set the tone and mood of your whole room, so use this as a starting point, and then buy other things to match.

Lighting

There are so many options when it comes to lighting, from your main lightshade, to desk lamps, fairy lights or LEDs. You’ll want to get a lamp if you are going to be studying your online health information management degree late into the night, but with so many different styles and colors to choose from, you’re sure to find something to suit your tastes. Candles are another great option when it comes to setting a more relaxed, or even romantic, mood.

Rugs

Like bed linen, a rug can change the whole look of a room. You might not be able to change your carpet, but you can cover it up. Student dorms tend to be quite neutral, so add some color with a bright, bold rug.

Plants

Plants are a wonderful way to inject some fun into your rooms, as they will easily add life and color. There are many houseplants that are low maintenance, which vary in size to suit your space. If you doubt your abilities to keep plants alive, consider a cactus, which takes almost no looking after, or put some fake flowers in a simple vase.

Posters

Like your carpet, you might be stuck with plain, boring walls, so get some posters to cheer things up. Buying cheap posters, then frame them, as this can be a great way of adding some sophistication. You could even frame material samples or wrapping paper you like for some really cool effects.

When you start adding some small touches, you will be amazed at how much different a simple room can look. Match your room to your personality, and use it as a chance to explore new styles and ideas until you find what suits you.
