Don’t Put Off Air Conditioning Repairs!

You know how it goes.  Spring rolls into summer and suddenly the mercury rises and you feel the need to turn on your air conditioner. So, you turn it on, expecting to feel that refreshing cool air wafting into your living space.  Then, nothing happens. Either it doesn’t turn on at all, or it doesn’t effectively turn your home into the respite from the heat you are seeking. What do you do?  If you’re like most people, you simply turn it off and convince yourself it’s not really that not anyway. Until it is. You turn it on again to be met, not surprisingly, with the same results as before. Now what? You have a choice: You can either put it off again, or you can address the matter.

It can be tempting to turn off the air conditioning and ignore the problems you know exist, but there are several problems inherent to taking that tack.  In addition to having to survive summer’s wrath without air conditioning, there are many other practical reasons not to put off air conditioning repair NYC residents.

Let’s start with the obvious. If you first turn on your air conditioning when the weather is still bearable, you may not feel the pressure to fix the system if it’s not working properly.  Before you know it, however, summer will be upon you and you are going to long for cooler temps in the house. Fixing your system when you first detect a problem is the best way to ensure it will work when you really need it to.

Next, let’s talk money.  Although it seems counterintuitive, having your air conditioning fixed as early as possible will actually save you money. The number-one reason put off AC repair is that they don’t want to spend the money. The truth is, however, that operating a system that isn’t working optimally will actually end up costing you money.  That’s because an ill-performing system has to work extra-hard to keep your house at your chosen temperature.  That will end up costing you more money on your energy bills at month’s end.

Moreover, whenever you turn on a malfunctioning system and expect it to perform, you are at risk of causing further damage, both to the broke part itself and to the other parts that have to overcompensate. That can turn a small issue into a serious – and costly – problem. Keep your repairs bills as low as possible by addressing issues when they are still small. The “wait and see” approach will only have one possible outcome: bigger problems and more costly repair bills.

Problems with your HVAC system won’t simply disappear.  They won’t magically resolve themselves or someone go away without being fixed. To get the best performance out of your air conditioner and save some money on your energy bills, when you first detect a problem with your system it’s important to call a qualified air conditioning repair technician to fix the problem as soon as possible.
