If you are a crafter who includes ribbon regularly in your projects, you likely have scraps or even large pieces left over when the craft is finished. This is often the case when you buy wholesale ribbon in large spools. Fortunately, there are dozens of fun and functional items you can create with very small lengths of leftover ribbon.

Zipper Pulls

How many times have you struggled to zip up the back of your dress when no one is at home to help you? A little loop of complementary ribbon, maybe in velvet, tied to the hole in the zipper pull can give you the extra help you need. The same works for zippers on just about any bag. Purses can be closed and opened more quickly with an extra ribbon pull, and children who carry backpacks may appreciate being able to open the bag without taking it off their backs.

Cupcake Flags

There are many adorable topper options using ribbon that will take your cupcakes to the next level. Add a little flag or banner to the top of a toothpick using hot glue, and you will have created a personalized bit of decoration. Maybe consider a tiny bow or ribbon flower on the toothpick as well.

Key Chains and Lanyards

Single keys often run the risk of being lost if they are not attached to a colorful and eye-catching ribbon. Then, the keys can be color-coded by purpose, eliminating the need for a label, which can be a security risk. Lanyards that carry a group of keys, identification cards or other items also are perfect for using up those extra lengths of ribbon, and the colors you choose can coordinate with your outfits!

Birthday Banners

For big birthday bashes, having a banner decorated with the celebrant’s name is a common decoration choice. Use one of your wider-width ribbons as the base for the banner and hang varying lengths of ribbon in complementary colors from the base. This approach works great as a decoration on the back of chairs as well – it’s a very popular décor choice at modern weddings.

Notes and Invitations

Think of the intrigue and surprise an invitee would feel if he or she received a spool of ribbon that had a message or note written on it. The invitation is revealed as the ribbon unwinds for an extra element of fun even before the party starts!
