How To Cope With Hair Loss For Middle Aged Men

For most middle aged blokes, the thought of losing their hair is nothing short of terrifying. Why? Because we derive much of our self esteem from our physical appearance. Our society places a great deal of importance on physical attractiveness and it’s often linked with social status.

Going ‘bald’ is seen as something that happens to older men, right? Wrong. Let’s look at the facts. Believe it or not, some guys start to experience male pattern baldness (MPB) by the tender age of 21; yikes!

In most cases (around 95% of men around the world), MPB is the most common type of hair loss. It’s inherited either from your mother or father. Other causes of hair loss include stress, poor diet, hormonal imbalances, prescription drugs, cancer treatments and autoimmune diseases.

So if you’re in the shower and wondering “did I put the plug in”, only to realize in horror it’s a chunk of your hair, don’t freak out and update your Will, here are some options for you to consider.

Get treatment

When I think of hair loss treatment for men, I cannot help but think of an old cheesy commercial with an equally cheesy jingle. I have to say, that ad kind of made me question how genuine and successful hair treatment clinics and practices are. Having looked into it a bit more, I’ve been really surprised at the results men and women achieve. Also, there are a lot of options to choose from, ranging from topical treatments that you apply to your hair and scalp, right up to hair transplant surgery. Do your research though and make sure you get on board with a professional and reputable company with proven results, for example, www.transitionshair.com.au .

Buy shares in Gillette

If you can’t beat them; join them right? You could just bite the bullet, grab your razor and go for the exceptionally clean shaven look. Alternatively, head to the hairdresser and get an all over buzz cut. Both styles aim to disguise receding hair lines and thin patches of hair or bald spots.

Adapt your hairstyle

No, I am not talking about growing and styling a ‘comb over’. If you don’t know what that is, look it up on Google images and give yourself a good laugh. If the shaved looked isn’t for you, it’s probably worthwhile talking with your hairdresser or barber for some suggestions on new styles that may be a bit more flattering.

So there you have it, some ideas on how to deal with your hair loss. Don’t despair, it’s such a common situation affecting men throughout the world. Hair treatments have come so far thanks to advances in medical science. Read up, talk to other guys and figure out what’s going to work for you and your lifestyle.

My hubby, being Italian, always had a thick head of hair but as Italian men are known, once they age they gain the "Italian forehead" meaning the widows peak with receding temples. He is totally bummed that his hair is slowly thinning in those areas. He's been so used to tons of black hair. Poor baby!
